Toolin' Up Thursdays: Physical Videos
I love movies. I also love my movies, my physical little boxes full of digital creations that I enjoy watching.
You should consider a physical video library.
In many ways, this echoes the debate over whether to use physical books or eBooks. I love both, but I think each experience is completely different from the other one. For me, I'd never consider buying a technical or long-form fiction book that wasn't physical. I enjoy carrying them around, I enjoy flipping back and forth to compare and lookup passages, and I enjoy being a librarian and home entertainment curator.
Those are also the kinds of things I enjoy with a physical movie library. I can browse, thinking over each title. I might pull one out, look at the back, and think: is this good enough for the evening's entertainment? Or is it a bit too dark to go with that other selection. I can make a temporary stack of movies to judge, show them to the family. I can read liners while the movie plays. If we're home all weekend, I can decide on a special cross-section of movies to watch that never would have occurred to me if I hadn't physically looked-at and browsed discs.
I love streaming. I love the almost instantaneous delivery of video content. I love where TV has gone, with high-quality episodic narratives. But I also love my physical video library. I'd never want to give that up.

I've moved!
Locals is turning off their free accounts and I've decided that I'd rather go back to maintaining my own site than sign up for any more "free" services that end up changing the conditions of service later.
The new site is just like this one, only no "locals" in the name. It's https://danielbmarkham.com
Please give it a shot, and please let me know if you have any problems signing up. I think I have the configuration down but you guys will be the first 100 or so to sign up, so there'll probably be some snags.
