Book Review Saturdays: The Distance
Jeremy Robinson has to be a force of nature. He's published over 60 novels in less than 20 years. Starting out in comics, he quickly worked his way up to series fiction.
For such a prolific writer, honestly I haven't read that much of him before. That's probably because he writes "fun" books. I try to stay on a diet of fun books, interleaving them with books that require more work.
But he found his way into my lair with his latest "NPC" which I bought as an audiobook a couple of weeks ago. It was good, if a bit short on ideas and long on action. I wasn't sure if I'd finish it, but it inspired me to see what else he might have written, and that's how I came across "The Distance"
"The Distance" is a book Jeremy wrote with his wife Hilaree, whom he credits with doing all of the major quality control work on his drafts as he creates them, no small feat.
The plot? Everybody dies. It feels much like "The Stand". But then, instead of King's meandering 37-character sprawl of a masterpiece, we follow two characters as they work through what happened and what that means.
It was very well done for pop fiction. I wasn't completely crazy about the last 20 pages or so, but I respect the way the authors told the story. I didn't feel cheated or strung along. Jeremy should write some more books with his wife. I'd be the first to buy one.

Locals is turning off their free accounts and I've decided that I'd rather go back to maintaining my own site than sign up for any more "free" services that end up changing the conditions of service later.
The new site is just like this one, only no "locals" in the name. It's https://danielbmarkham.com
Please give it a shot, and please let me know if you have any problems signing up. I think I have the configuration down but you guys will be the first 100 or so to sign up, so there'll probably be some snags.
