This is easily in the top ten Cold War action movies and one of the best movies made of this type in the 80s
But as good as it is, there's one reason you shouldn't watch it: you've always wondered what the big deal was with Tom Clancy and have never read one of his novels. If that's the case, you're in for a treat. Grab a paperback copy of "The Hunt For Red October", find a quiet spot, and enjoy.
If you're not much of a reader, though, or you've already read the book, you'll still love the movie. I can easily count the number of movies that I can go back to and rewatch and still enjoy. This is one of them. This is the smart, better-done version of "The Rock"
