This week for Book Review Saturday we're going to do some foundational process books. These books are excellent to have no matter what your job. They're all about taking whatever you do and making it better.
You know you have a good book when it sells millions and spawns hundreds of derivative books. That's what happened with "The Goal", by Eliyahu Goldratt
Written in the early 90s, it's a business book that's not a business book. It's just a story about a guy coming into a manufacturing plant and how they all turned it around from being crappy to being completely optimized. You might think that sounds too far-out to be practical, but what Goldratt is doing is introducing the "Theory of Constraints", which works for everything from manufacturing plants to DevOps pipelines.
An easy read, this is also a great book to pick up in audiobook format and consume while you're doing other things. The lessons and messages in here are both timeless and easy-to-grasp.
