Nope, this post is not about gaining weight over the holidays.
Seventy-Six years ago today German forces mustered up one last, great effort to slow down or stop the allied armies from taking Berlin.
They gave everything they had left. Special English-speaking troops were trained to act like MPs, directing traffic to the wrong places. (Those folks were shot, as the one thing you cannot do in a war is disguise yourself to look like the enemy. That makes you a spy, not a soldier)
Of all of the great stories that occurred during this catastrophe, Patton pivoting the Third Army 90 degrees, marching three days, and immediately re-engaging the enemy has to rank near the top. It was probably the most historic battle maneuver of the war.
