Book Review Saturday: Alchemy

I just finished the audio version of this book and I consider it a must-read, especially for any of my technical friends interested in how business actually works. As technical folks, many times we are used to starting with first principles, building using logic and reason, and then creating the "correct" thing that the customer needs.

That's all bullshit.

Rory Sutherland is a VP of a famous, world-wide advertising company, so he knows how to market and sell. He's also worked with many of the most technical people in the world, so he knows how the scientific, technical mind works. Add to that a foundation in the classics and a wonderful sense of humor, and you've got a really interesting and useful book. Also it's funny as hell.

I don't want to make his case for him; he should do it himself. If you're trying to make something that other people will want, you _must_ read this book. This is the book I desperately needed to read ten years ago.

I've moved!

Locals is turning off their free accounts and I've decided that I'd rather go back to maintaining my own site than sign up for any more "free" services that end up changing the conditions of service later.

The new site is just like this one, only no "locals" in the name. It's https://danielbmarkham.com

Please give it a shot, and please let me know if you have any problems signing up. I think I have the configuration down but you guys will be the first 100 or so to sign up, so there'll probably be some snags.
