Wayback Wednesdays (Random): Jimmy Carter in Japan
In the late 70s, when he was president, Carter traveled to Japan to make a famous speech. At the beginning he told one of his usual jokes, but he found the audience quite overcome with laughter and merriment instead of just smiling.
Thinking he might have found an extra punch to the joke, he requested the translator be brought forward. When the man appeared, he asked what made the joke so funny this time when it wasn't that funny in the past?
"I told the audience, President Carter is telling a funny story now. Everybody must laugh"
I guess you take your laughs where you find them.
