Saturday Book Reviews: The Generals
Loving systems as I do, and loving history, there are few books that I enjoyed as much I did listening to the audio version of "The Generals"
It covers generals in the US Army, from World War II to the Vietnam War. Most observers agree that the U.S. did a serviceable job in WWII, and most observers agree we did a lousy job in Vietnam. To what degree did management, er, generals play?
I don't want to spoil the thesis, but it's great, and the argument is extremely well-made. This book also dovetails nicely with "Alchemy", which we covered on our last Saturday Book Reviews.
If you're interested in organizational growth, especially in old and rigid organizations, under crisis conditions? Read The Generals. Good stuff.
